PFC Joseph Harold LaMew - 93rd Bomb Squadron, 19th Bomb Group (H)

Private First Class Joseph Harold LaMew joined the US Army Air Corps from Missouri and was a member of the 93rd Bombardment Squadron, 19th Bomb Group (H) in the Philippines during World War II. He was captured in Bataan following the American surrender on April 9, 1942 and died of dysentery at 6 a.m. on July 31, 1942 at the Cabanatuan Prison Camp in Nueva Ecija Province. He was buried in communal grave 212 in the camp cemetery along with other deceased American POWs. His remains were identified after the war and he was interned in Block N, Row 4, Grave 30 at the American Military Cemetery outside of Manila, Philippines. But questions remain if he was correctly identified. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency has requested his descendants submit DNA Family Reference Samples to aid in a full, proper accounting. US POW/MIA Family Locating has identified his paternal descendants for DNA.
