Frye, Brother of Paul Frye
Paula,
I am volunteer researcher supporting families of WW2 American POW/MIA who died in the Philippines. I am hoping I have found the correct Paula, daughter of Paul A. Frye of Amarillo, TX. who’s brother PFC Walter A. Frye died in the Philippines. Please let me know if you are not related so I can continue the search for his family.
Your Uncle, PFC Walter A. Frye entered the U.S. Army from Texas and served in Company E, 2nd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment in the Philippines during World War II. He was captured in Bataan following the American surrender on 9 April 1942 and died of dysentery on 24 July 1942, at the Cabanatuan Prison of War Camp in Nueva Ecija Province. He was buried in communal grave 314 in the camp cemetery along with 19 other deceased American POWs who died the same day; however, his remains could not be associated with any remains recovered from Cabanatuan after the war. Today, Private First Class Frye is memorialized on the Walls of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. Based on all information available, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) assessed PFC Frye’s case to be in the analytical category of Active Pursuit and are looking for his family to help in his identification. After the war, those deceased POWs who couldn’t be positively identified were relocated and are currently buried as an “Unknown” in the American Military Cemetery located outside of Manila, Philippines.
I am working with a few other families of POWs who were buried in this same grave and they have asked me to search and find the other POW families to see if you or any of your cousins have been contacted by the DPAA or US Army Past Conflicts Branch in regards to your Uncle? The other families would like to share their case information with you if you are interested in this effort. The DPAA link to your Uncle’s profile can be found here… https://dpaa.secure.force.com/dpaaProfile... and the military contact for your Uncle’s case is below. Please let me know I have the correct family and I will send you the case file on your Uncle and the Cabanatuan Grave 314. We are also hoping you will share this information with your Aunt Laura’s and Uncle David’s children! Please feel free to call or email me at the info below.
